Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon' Variegata
A gem among aroids, Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon' Variegated combines the striking silver-toned foliage of the original cultivar with beautiful splashes of white to creamy variegation. The thick, textured leaves resemble dragon scales, each with dark green veins contrasting against the silvery surface. With the added marbled or sectoral variegation, this plant becomes a true collector’s item—unique, elegant, and sculptural.
This compact Alocasia is ideal for indoor display or in shaded greenhouse environments. Due to its rarity and slow growth, it remains highly sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Care Plan – Alocasia 'Silver Dragon' Variegated
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves or fade variegation. Too little light may reduce the intensity of the variegation.
Watering:
Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering or allowing the roots to sit in water can lead to root rot.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity (60–80%). If indoors, use a humidifier or place the plant on a pebble tray to maintain moisture levels.
Temperature:
Prefers warm conditions between 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix—ideally a blend of premium potting mix, perlite, and orchid bark.
Fertiliser:
Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Repotting:
Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Choose a pot with good drainage and only size up slightly.
Pests:
Watch for spider mites, mealybugs, and thrips. Treat promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed
