Alocasia Cucullata - Bare Bottom Baby - SALE
Alocasia cucullata– Description
Alocasia cucullata is a striking variegated form of the commonly known ‘Chinese Taro’ or ‘Buddha’s Hand’. Known for its heart-shaped, glossy foliage, this variety features unpredictable marbling and splashes of creamy white variegation that contrast beautifully against its deep green base. With its upright, clumping growth habit and ornamental stems, it brings a touch of tropical elegance to any indoor or sheltered outdoor space. While more compact than some of its Alocasia cousins, its bold foliage makes a strong visual impact.
Care Plan for Alocasia cucullata
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may reduce variegation and cause leggy growth.
Water:
Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in the cooler months.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity (60%+). Mist regularly or use a humidifier, especially in dry indoor conditions.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm conditions between 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 12°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, chunky mix – ideally one designed for aroids or a combination of premium potting mix, perlite, and orchid bark.
Feeding:
Fertilise fortnightly during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Avoid overfeeding to prevent leaf burn.
Repotting:
Repot every 1–2 years or when rootbound. Choose a pot just slightly larger to avoid excess moisture retention.
