Epipremnum Pinnatum 'fire flame' - Bare Bottom Baby
Epipremnum ‘Fire Flame’ is a rare and unusual climbing aroid distinguished by its dramatically narrow, flame-like foliage. The leaves are elongated and deeply undulating, often twisting slightly along the margins, which gives them the appearance of flickering flames. As the plant matures and climbs, the foliage becomes more exaggerated in shape, developing stronger lobing and deeper texturing.
The foliage is typically deep glossy green with prominent midrib definition, and the leaves can become quite long compared with most Epipremnum species. Unlike the broader leaves seen in Epipremnum aureum cultivars, ‘Fire Flame’ produces a much more sculptural and elongated leaf form, making it highly sought after among collectors of unusual aroids.
When grown on a support such as a moss pole or totem, the plant will climb vigorously and produce progressively larger and more dramatic leaves.
Care Plan
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. The plant will tolerate moderate light, but strong filtered light encourages larger leaves and stronger growth. Avoid prolonged direct sun.
Watering
Allow the top 2–4 cm of the potting mix to dry slightly between watering. Water thoroughly but ensure excess water drains freely to prevent root rot.
Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–80%), though it adapts well to typical indoor conditions if watering and airflow are balanced.
Temperature
Best grown between 18–30 °C. Protect from temperatures below 15 °C and cold drafts.
Soil / Potting Mix
Use a well-draining aroid mix. A blend of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir or peat, and quality potting mix provides good aeration and moisture retention.
Fertiliser
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 3–4 weeks during active growth in spring and summer.
Growth Habit
A climbing vine that benefits from a moss pole, totem, or trellis. Climbing encourages larger and more mature leaf forms.
