Philodendron erubescens Sun Red - Bare Bottom Baby
The Philodendron erubescens 'Sun Red' is a captivating and robust variety of Philodendron known for its vibrant, reddish-bronze new leaves that gradually mature to a deep, rich green. The contrast between the emerging red foliage and the mature green leaves adds a dynamic and eye-catching element to this plant. 'Sun Red' is a climbing Philodendron, making it an excellent choice for a trellis or moss pole in indoor gardens.
Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies. The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.
Light:
Philodendron erubescens 'Sun Red' thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain the vibrant red coloration of the new leaves. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, the red hues may be less pronounced. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering:
Water the plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. It prefers consistently moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering. Ensure the pot has proper drainage to prevent water from sitting in the soil, which can lead to root rot.
Humidity:
This Philodendron enjoys high humidity levels, ideally around 60-80%. If your home has low humidity, especially during winter, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a humidity tray. Regular misting can also help maintain the necessary humidity.
Temperature:
Maintain a temperature range between 18-27°C for optimal growth. The plant is sensitive to cold and should be kept away from drafts or temperatures below 13°C.
Soil:
Use a well-draining, aroid-specific soil mix. A combination of peat, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal, allowing the soil to retain moisture while ensuring proper drainage.
Fertilisation:
Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the autumn and winter when the plant's growth slows. Avoid over-fertilising, as it can cause damage to the plant.
