Aglaonema modestum variegata
A rare, slow-growing Chinese evergreen with glossy green leaves patterned in creamy-white variegation. Its compact, upright habit makes it an attractive indoor feature plant. Native to tropical and subtropical parts of Asia, it prefers warmth, gentle light and consistent care.
Bright, indirect light is best for maintaining strong variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which may scorch the pale sections.
Water
Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry. Drain thoroughly and reduce watering during cooler months. Avoid constantly wet soil.
Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts to typical indoor conditions. Protect from drying air and cold draughts.
Temperature
Ideal range: 18–29°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Soil
Use a loose, well-draining indoor plant mix containing perlite, orchid bark or coco coir. Always use a pot with drainage holes.
Fertiliser
Apply a diluted, balanced fertiliser every four to six weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or stop feeding in winter.
