Description:
Alocasia amazonica ‘Bambino’ Variegata is a rare and highly decorative cultivar prized for its compact size and dramatic foliage. Unlike the larger Alocasia amazonica, the ‘Bambino’ features narrower, lance-shaped leaves with pronounced silvery-white veins. The variegated form adds cream, pale yellow, and sometimes minty tones splashed or marbled across the deep green leaves, creating striking contrast. Its smaller stature makes it perfect for indoor collectors or terrarium displays.

Despite its name, it is not actually from the Amazon—it's a cultivated hybrid, likely between Alocasia longiloba and Alocasia sanderiana.

Care Plan (Australian Conditions):

  • Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much direct sun can burn the leaves, while low light may reduce variegation.

  • Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry slightly before watering. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.

  • Humidity:
High humidity (60–80%) is essential. Mist regularly, use a pebble tray, or position near a humidifier—especially in dry climates.

  • Temperature:
Prefers warm conditions between 18–28°C. Protect from cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C.

  • Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix—try a blend of premium potting mix, orchid bark, and perlite.

  • Fertiliser:
Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn). Do not overfeed.

  • Growth Habit:
A compact, upright grower reaching around 20–40 cm in height. Ideal for small spaces or decorative pots.
