Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' is an eye-catching hybrid between Alocasia brisbanensis and Alocasia odora, known for its unusual and whimsical appearance. It features upright, glossy green, paddle-shaped leaves held on long, slender, dark stems that resemble dancers' arms raised in motion. Its compact size makes it a great choice for indoor settings, as it typically grows up to 30-60 cm (1-2 feet) tall. The plant’s playful, sculptural form has earned it popularity among plant collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its distinctive charm and minimal space requirements.

Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies.  The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.

Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' Care Plan:

Light:

  • Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves, while low light can slow down its growth and cause the leaves to fade in colour.
  • It can tolerate some dappled morning sun but should be kept away from harsh afternoon sunlight.

Watering:

  • Water when the top 2-3 cm (1 inch) of soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure that the pot has good drainage to prevent water from pooling at the bottom, as this plant is susceptible to root rot.
  • It likes consistently moist soil, but not soggy. Reduce watering during the cooler months when growth slows down.

Humidity:

  • High humidity is essential for the Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers', as it thrives in levels above 60%. Low humidity can cause the edges of the leaves to brown.
  • Increase humidity by misting the plant regularly, placing it on a pebble tray with water, or using a humidifier.

Temperature:

  • This plant prefers warm conditions, ideally between 18°C and 27°C (65°F-80°F). Protect it from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and temperatures below 15°C (59°F), which can stress the plant.

Soil:

  • Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one designed for aroids or indoor plants. A blend of regular potting soil with added perlite, peat, and orchid bark will work well to retain some moisture without becoming waterlogged.

Fertilising:

  • Feed your Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Cut back on fertilising during the autumn and winter months when the plant is not actively growing.

Repotting:

  • Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers' prefers to be slightly root-bound but should be repotted every 1-2 years, or when the roots outgrow the pot. Choose a pot with good drainage.
