Alocasia cuprea Variegata is a rare and spectacular variegated form of the distinctive Alocasia cuprea, prized for its highly reflective, almost metallic foliage. Its thick, sculptural leaves display rich shades of copper, bronze and deep green, enhanced by contrasting cream, yellow or pale-green variegation. The combination of metallic colour, pronounced veining and unpredictable variegation makes every leaf uniquely striking.

Care Plan for Alocasia cuprea Variegata
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Adequate light helps support healthy growth and variegation, but avoid strong direct sunlight as the lighter variegated sections are particularly susceptible to scorching.
Water: Allow the top few centimetres of growing media to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely. Avoid keeping the growing media constantly wet, as this can increase the risk of root and corm rot.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%. Good airflow is recommended alongside higher humidity to maintain healthy foliage.
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions between 18–28°C. Protect from cold draughts and prolonged temperatures below approximately 15°C.
Soil: Use a loose, well-draining and aerated aroid growing media. A quality mix containing potting media with coarse components such as bark and perlite will provide both moisture retention and good drainage.
Fertiliser: Apply a balanced fertiliser during periods of active growth according to the recommended rate. Reduce feeding during cooler months or when the plant's growth slows.
Additional Information: Variegation can differ considerably between individual plants and from one leaf to the next. Highly variegated plants may grow more slowly due to having less chlorophyll available for photosynthesis. Alocasia cuprea can also slow its growth or enter a period of dormancy during cooler conditions, so watering should be reduced accordingly.
