Alocasia Golden Bone - Perfectly Imperfect Plants
Alocasia ‘Golden Bone’
Alocasia ‘Golden Bone’ is a striking aroid renowned for its bold, dramatic foliage. The plant features large, arrow-shaped leaves with a glossy dark green surface contrasted by prominent pale yellow to golden veins and petioles, giving it a sculptural, almost architectural appearance. Its upright, clumping growth habit makes it an impressive statement plant for indoor and sheltered outdoor spaces. Native to tropical environments, it thrives in humid conditions with filtered light and well-draining soil.
Care Plan:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves, and very low light, which can reduce growth and vibrancy.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1–2 cm of soil begins to dry. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.
-
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is ideal. Mist regularly or use a humidifier if indoor air is dry.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 20–28 °C. Protect from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining aroid mix with good aeration, such as a blend of orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir.
-
Fertiliser: Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in cooler months when growth slows.
-
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot slightly larger than the current one to accommodate growth.
