Description:
Alocasia odora × portei ‘Low Rider’ is a unique hybrid combining the best traits of its parent species. This compact yet bold Alocasia features deeply lobed, elongated leaves with a strikingly architectural form. Unlike its taller relatives, ‘Low Rider’ has a more manageable height, making it an excellent choice for indoor collections or small tropical gardens. Its thick, sturdy stems support the lush green foliage, which develops prominent veining and an elegant, rippled texture. This hybrid thrives in warm, humid environments and is sure to be a standout in any plant collection.

Care Plan:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some morning or late afternoon sun. Avoid direct midday sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry slightly before watering again. Adjust watering frequency based on seasonal conditions.

Humidity: Requires high humidity (above 60%) to thrive. If grown indoors, use a humidifier, misting, or a pebble tray to maintain moisture levels.

Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between 18–30°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C, as this can trigger dormancy.

Soil: A well-draining mix with good aeration is ideal—combine peat, perlite, and orchid bark to ensure proper moisture balance.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 3–4 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in cooler months when growth slows.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when roots become crowded. Choose a pot with adequate drainage to prevent root rot.
