Alocasia meclizine ‘Aurea Variegata’ is a striking aroid known for its dramatic golden and cream variegation against dark green foliage. Leaves are elongated with prominent veins and glossy surfaces, creating a bold, architectural appearance. Variegation patterns are highly variable, ranging from splashes and marbling to larger sectors, giving each plant a unique look.

This plant is a slower grower compared to standard Alocasia meclizine, but its ornamental impact is high, making it a standout specimen for collectors. Mature leaves develop a strong upright form, often accentuated when grown with vertical support.

Indoor Care Guide

Light
Bright, indirect light is essential. Variegated sections need higher light levels to maintain colour, but avoid direct sun, which can scorch leaves.

Watering
Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2–3 cm to dry between waterings.

Humidity
High humidity (70–85%) is preferred. Low humidity may slow growth and cause edges of variegated leaves to brown.

Temperature
Ideal range: 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.

Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix (e.g., bark, perlite/pumice, peat or coco coir). Good drainage and airflow are critical.

Feeding
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 2–4 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in cooler months.

Growth Habit
Climbing to upright growth. Provide a moss pole or stake for support to encourage larger, mature leaves.
