The Alocasia Frydek Variegated is a rare and highly desirable houseplant known for its striking, heart-shaped leaves and stunning variegation. The plant features deep green velvet-like leaves with bold, creamy white or yellow splashes that create a beautiful contrast. The leaves have a prominent venation that enhances the dramatic effect of the variegation. This tropical plant, with its elegant, upright growth habit, adds an exotic flair to any indoor plant collection. The variegation on each leaf is unique, making every plant a one-of-a-kind piece of living art.

Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies.  The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.

Care Plan for Alocasia Frydek Variegated:

  1. Light:

    • Thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain the plant's variegation. Avoid direct sunlight as it can burn the delicate leaves and cause the white portions to become scorched.
    • In lower light, the plant may lose some of its variegation and produce smaller leaves.
  2. Watering:

    • Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2-3 cm (1 inch) of the soil feels dry to the touch. Ensure the plant is in well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes to avoid waterlogging.
    • Reduce watering in winter when the plant's growth slows down.
  3. Humidity:

    • Alocasia Frydek Variegated thrives in high humidity environments, ideally around 60-80%. Use a humidifier or regularly mist the plant if your space is dry, especially in winter months when indoor heating reduces humidity levels.
  4. Soil:

    • Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A blend of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal to provide aeration while retaining moisture.
    • Make sure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
  5. Fertiliser:

    • Feed the plant every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser diluted to half-strength. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can damage the roots.
    • Hold off on fertilising during autumn and winter when the plant is dormant.
  6. Pruning and Maintenance:

    • Remove yellow or dead leaves regularly to encourage new growth and keep the plant looking healthy. Clean the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve their appearance.
  7. Temperature:

    • Keep the plant in a warm environment with temperatures between 18-27°C . Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 15°C , as cold can stress the plant and slow its growth.

GROWING STRONG

Received one of the Variegated Frydek with decent roots. It is now growing very healthy strong roots and its largest leaf so far after losing a couple leaves due to climatisation.
