Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’

Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’ is a striking and elegant cultivar known for its large, dark green leaves that are deeply lobed and glossy. The undersides of the leaves display a rich purple hue, creating a dramatic contrast with the vibrant green top surface. Native to Southeast Asia, this plant is prized for its regal appearance and lush foliage, making it a showstopper in any collection. As a larger grower, it requires ample space and is perfect for plant enthusiasts who want to add a touch of drama to their indoor jungle.

Care Plan for Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light may lead to slow growth and less vibrant foliage.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot.

Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60% or more). Regular misting, a humidifier, or placing the plant on a humidity tray can help maintain optimal moisture levels.

Temperature: Grows best in temperatures between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: Use a well-draining, chunky mix with orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir. The mix should hold moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the cooler months when growth slows.
