Alocasia reginae ‘Platinum Dragon’ – Description

Alocasia reginae ‘Platinum Dragon’ is a rare and striking jewel among Alocasias, prized for its unique silvery foliage. Each elongated, shield-shaped leaf boasts a matte, platinum-silver surface with bold, dark green veining that adds dramatic contrast. As the plant matures, the veins deepen and the leaves develop a subtle texture that gives them a slightly armoured appearance. Compact and elegant, this Alocasia is ideal for indoor collectors looking to add a rare, sculptural element to their foliage collection.

Care Plan for Alocasia reginae ‘Platinum Dragon’

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the delicate leaves, while too little light may cause dull colour and slower growth.

Water:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid letting it sit in excess water.

Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity (60%+). Mist regularly or use a humidifier to maintain leaf health and prevent browning edges.

Temperature:
Loves warmth, ideally between 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C.

Soil:
Use a free-draining, airy mix—an aroid blend with potting mix, perlite, and orchid bark works well. Good drainage is essential.

Feeding:
Feed every 3–4 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a diluted liquid fertiliser. Reduce or pause feeding during winter.

Repotting:
Repot every 1–2 years or when roots become crowded. Choose a pot with good drainage to help prevent root rot.
