Alocasia macrorrhizos plumbea Variegata
Alocasia macrorrhizos 'Plumbea Variegata,' also known as the Variegated Elephant Ear, is a bold and dramatic tropical plant. Its large, heart-shaped leaves showcase an eye-catching mix of green, creamy white, and silvery tones, often with marbled or streaked variegation patterns. The plant’s robust stems and imposing size make it a statement piece, perfect for adding a tropical flair to any space.
This variegated beauty is relatively easy to grow with proper care and will reward you with its lush, striking foliage.
Care Plan
Light:
Provide bright, indirect light to enhance variegation. While it can tolerate some direct morning sun, avoid intense midday sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm conditions, ideally between 20–30°C. Keep it away from cold drafts or temperatures below 15°C.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity (above 60%). Mist the leaves occasionally or use a humidifier to maintain an ideal environment.
Watering:
Water thoroughly when the top 2–4 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of potting soil, perlite, and coconut coir. This helps to keep roots aerated and prevents waterlogging.
Fertiliser:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid over-fertilising, as this can cause salt buildup in the soil.
