Alocasia scalprum 'Aurea' Variegata
Care Plan:
1. Light Requirements:
- Bright, Indirect Light: This Alocasia thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause the variegated portions of the leaves to burn, so it’s best placed near a window with filtered light or under a grow light. Insufficient light can reduce variegation and cause leggy growth.
2. Temperature:
- Warm and Stable: Maintain a consistent temperature range of 18-27°C Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 15°C , as cold conditions can cause stress and slow growth.
3. Humidity:
- High Humidity: Alocasia scalprum Albo Variegata prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 60-80%. Use a humidifier, mist the plant regularly, or group it with other humidity-loving plants to maintain moisture in the air. Low humidity can lead to browning of the leaf edges.
4. Watering:
- Moderate Watering: Water when the top 2.5 cm (1 inch) of soil feels dry. The soil should be kept consistently moist but not soggy. Reduce watering during the cooler months when the plant's growth slows down, but do not let the soil dry out completely.
5. Soil:
- Well-Draining, Aroid Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark works well. The soil should retain some moisture but allow excess water to drain easily, preventing root rot.
6. Fertilisation:
- Balanced Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a diluted solution at half strength to prevent over-fertilisation, which can cause leaf burn. Stop fertilising in autumn and winter.
