Alocasia ‘wentii’ Variegated
Alocasia'wentii'Variegata is a striking tropical plant known for its large, glossy, arrow-shaped leaves that display a captivating mix of deep green and creamy-white variegation. The undersides of the leaves are often a rich, purplish-brown, adding to its visual appeal. It is a hybrid that thrives in humid, warm environments, making it a popular choice for indoor collectors.
Care Plan for Alocasia 'wentii' Variegated:
1. Light:
- Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the variegated leaves. A spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal.
- Insufficient light may cause the variegation to fade.
2. Watering:
- Water the plant when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering, as Alocasias are prone to root rot. Use well-draining soil and ensure the pot has drainage holes.
- In winter, reduce watering frequency as the plant’s growth slows.
3. Humidity:
- Alocasia wentii thrives in high humidity (60-80%). Mist the plant regularly, or place it near a humidifier to mimic its natural tropical habitat.
- Avoid placing the plant near vents or drafts, as it can lead to browning leaf edges.
4. Temperature:
- Keep the temperature between 18-29°C. It is sensitive to cold, so avoid exposing it to temperatures below 13°C.
5. Soil:
- Use a well-draining, chunky mix such as a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark to provide proper aeration and drainage.
6. Fertiliser:
- Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
