Anthurium 'Black Magic' - Bare Bottom Baby
Description
Anthurium ‘Black Magic’ is a striking tropical aroid known for its large, glossy, deep dark green to almost black leaves that develop a dramatic, leathery texture as they mature. This elegant foliage plant is highly sought after for its architectural presence and low-maintenance appeal. ‘Black Magic’ produces long-lasting, subtle greenish-white spathes with a prominent spadix when mature, though it is primarily grown for its foliage rather than flowers. Its dark leaves make it an excellent contrast in mixed plant displays or minimalist interiors.
Care Plan
Light:
-
Prefers bright, indirect light.
-
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
-
Can tolerate moderate indoor light but growth may slow.
Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
-
Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings.
-
Reduce watering slightly in cooler months.
Humidity:
-
Thrives in high humidity (60–80%).
-
Mist occasionally or place near a humidifier if indoor air is dry.
Temperature:
-
Optimal range: 18–28°C.
-
Avoid temperatures below 15°C and sudden cold drafts.
Soil:
-
Well-draining, airy soil mix.
-
Aroid mix with peat, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
Fertiliser:
-
Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser.
-
Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Repotting:
-
Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound.
