Anthurium forgetii - Bare bottom Baby
Anthurium forgetii is a unique and highly prized species of Anthurium, admired for its compact size and distinctive, oval-shaped leaves. Unlike many other Anthurium varieties, Anthurium forgetii lacks lobes at the top of the leaf, giving it a rounded, almost egg-like appearance. The foliage is dark green with silvery-white veins that create an elegant contrast, adding a striking look to any indoor plant collection. This Anthurium species is native to Colombia and Ecuador and is ideal for those who appreciate unusual and ornamental foliage.
Care Plan
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the delicate leaves, so it’s best to place it in a well-lit room with filtered light.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 18–27°C. Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C, as this plant is sensitive to the cold.
-
Humidity: Anthurium forgetii loves high humidity (60–80%). Regular misting or the use of a humidifier will help keep its leaves lush and healthy, especially in dry conditions.
-
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out slightly before watering again. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has good drainage.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, chunky mix, such as an orchid or aroid mix, to allow air to circulate around the roots. A mix of orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss works well.
-
Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the cooler months.
-
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when it becomes root-bound. This allows fresh soil to provide essential nutrients and space for growth.
