Anthurium jenmanii variegata is a highly sought-after variety of Anthurium known for its glossy, heart-shaped leaves and striking variegation. The variegated form displays bold, contrasting patterns of cream, yellow, or white along with the deep green of the leaves. It produces large, leathery foliage that can grow quite large, adding a tropical and luxurious touch to any collection. This plant is a member of the Araceae family and has become popular in recent years due to its unique aesthetic and the rarity of the variegated form.

Care Plan

  • Light: Anthurium jenmanii variegata thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can burn the leaves, especially the variegated areas. Lack of light may result in diminished variegation and slower growth.

  • Temperature: This plant prefers temperatures between 18°C to 27°C. Keep it in a warm environment, as it is sensitive to cold temperatures below 15°C, which can lead to leaf damage.

  • Watering: Water regularly, but ensure the soil is well-drained. Let the top 2.5 cm of soil dry out between waterings. Be cautious not to let the plant sit in water, as this can cause root rot.

  • Humidity: High humidity is essential for this plant, ideally above 60%. Regular misting, a humidity tray, or the use of a humidifier can help provide the necessary moisture, especially in dry climates or indoor environments.

  • Soil: Use a well-draining, lightweight potting mix designed for aroids, such as a mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark. This will ensure good root aeration and prevent waterlogged conditions.

  • Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilising during the dormant period (fall and winter), as the plant’s growth slows.

  • Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a container that’s just a couple of centimeters larger than the current one to avoid water retention problems.

With its stunning foliage and unique variegation, Anthurium jenmanii variegata makes an elegant addition to any plant collection.
