Description
Anthurium plowmanii, commonly known as “Wave of Love,” is a striking bird’s nest–type Anthurium prized for its large, elongated leaves with heavily undulating (ruffled) margins. The foliage forms a radial rosette rather than climbing, creating a full, architectural plant ideal for statement displays. Leaves are thick, leathery, and deep green with a subtle sheen, often reaching impressive lengths under optimal conditions. Unlike many Anthuriums grown for flowers, this species is cultivated primarily for its dramatic foliage structure.

Care Plan

Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. It will tolerate medium light, but leaf size and undulation will reduce. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Temperature
Prefers warm conditions between 18–28°C. Avoid exposure below 15°C, as growth will slow and stress may occur.

Humidity
Thrives in moderate to high humidity (60–80%). It will tolerate average indoor conditions, but higher humidity promotes larger leaves and better form.

Watering
Water when the top 2–4 cm of the substrate has dried. Keep the mix lightly moist but never waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to root rot, particularly in cooler months.

Substrate
Use a well-draining aroid mix with good aeration. A blend of orchid bark, perlite, coco coir or peat, and charcoal works well. The root system prefers airflow similar to epiphytic conditions.

Fertilising
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 2–4 weeks during active growth (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in cooler months.

Growth Habit
A non-climbing, rosette-forming Anthurium. It gradually expands outward, producing larger leaves over time rather than vining.

Repotting
Repot every 1–2 years or when root-bound. Choose a wider pot rather than a deeper one to accommodate its spreading growth habit.
