Anthurium superbum is a striking, bird’s nest-style Anthurium known for its large, upright, rippled leaves that form a dramatic rosette. Native to the tropical forests of South America, this epiphytic species thrives in humid conditions and well-draining substrates. Its deep green, leathery leaves have a unique quilted texture, adding to its bold, architectural appeal. Unlike vining Anthuriums, A. superbum grows in a self-supporting, compact structure, making it a fantastic choice for both indoor and greenhouse settings.

Care Plan

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some dappled sun but should be protected from harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Reduce watering in cooler months.

Humidity: Requires high humidity (above 60%) to thrive. If indoor air is dry, use a humidifier, mist occasionally, or place the plant near a pebble tray with water.

Temperature: Best grown in warm conditions between 18–28°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 12°C, as cold stress can slow growth and damage leaves.

Soil: Use a well-draining, aerated mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir. A loose, chunky mix mimics its natural epiphytic habitat.

Fertilising: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser or an orchid fertiliser to encourage healthy growth. Reduce feeding in winter.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a pot with good drainage to prevent excess moisture buildup.
