Anthurium superbum- Bare Bottom Baby
Anthurium Superbum, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest Anthurium, is a stunning tropical plant with large, textured leaves that grow in a distinctive rosette formation, resembling a bird's nest. The dark green, leathery leaves are ridged with a beautiful, ruffled texture, and their upward growth adds a dramatic vertical element to any indoor or shaded outdoor space. As the plant matures, its striking foliage makes it a great focal point for plant collections and a favourite among tropical plant enthusiasts.
Care Plan
-
Light
Anthurium Superbum thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, though dappled light can be beneficial. Lower light conditions may slow growth but won't harm the plant. -
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. During warmer months, you might need to water more frequently, while in cooler months, reduce watering to avoid root rot. -
Humidity
This plant loves high humidity levels (60-80%), making it a great candidate for bathrooms or other humid environments. If the air is dry, consider misting it occasionally or using a humidifier to maintain optimal moisture levels. -
Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18-27°C. Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 15°C, as cold can damage its foliage. -
Soil
A well-draining, aerated soil mix rich in organic matter is ideal. Orchid bark or coco coir added to the potting mix can help improve aeration and drainage, mimicking its natural epiphytic environment. -
Fertiliser
Feed monthly with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding to every other month during autumn and winter when growth slows. -
Repotting
Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot with good drainage to prevent water retention issues.
