Anthurium superbum Variegata
Anthurium Superbum Variegated is a striking plant, known for its large, thick, upright leaves and unique rosette growth pattern. This rare variegated version features beautiful Pink streak against a dark green backdrop, giving the leaf a unique quality. Native to Ecuador, it’s often called the “Bird’s Nest Anthurium” due to its form and leaf structure. The plant’s foliage is leathery and slightly wavy along the edges, creating an attractive, architectural look in any indoor space.
Care Plan
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, as it can scorch the variegated leaves.
- Temperature: Prefers warm conditions, ideally between 18–27°C. It’s sensitive to cold, so keep it away from drafts or temperatures below 15°C.
- Humidity: Loves high humidity (around 60–80%). Use a humidifier or mist regularly to keep the humidity up, especially in drier months.
- Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. Anthuriums don’t like sitting in water, so ensure good drainage.
- Soil: Use a well-draining, chunky mix, such as a blend of orchid bark, perlite, and peat. This allows air to reach the roots and prevents waterlogging.
- Fertiliser: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Avoid over-fertilising, as it can damage the plant.
- Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years, or when it outgrows its pot, to give it fresh soil and room for root growth.
