Anthurium veitchii- Bare Bottom Baby
Anthurium veitchii
Anthurium veitchii, commonly known as the King Anthurium, is a striking epiphytic species admired for its long, rippled leaves that develop dramatic corrugation as they mature. Native to the rainforests of Colombia, this species thrives in humid environments and can produce leaves that reach over a metre in length under optimal conditions. Its elegant, deeply pleated foliage makes it a standout in any aroid collection, adding a bold and architectural presence to indoor spaces.
Care Plan for Anthurium veitchii
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may slow growth.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Use distilled or rainwater if possible, as it is sensitive to tap water minerals.
Humidity: Requires high humidity (70% or more) to thrive. A humidifier or regular misting can help maintain optimal conditions.
Temperature: Grows best in temperatures between 18–27°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 13°C and protect from cold drafts.
Soil: A well-aerated, chunky mix with orchid bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss is ideal. The mix should retain moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.
Fertilising: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during the growing season. A fertiliser high in calcium and magnesium supports healthy leaf development.
