Anthurium Veitchii also known as the King of Anthuriums is a captivating species within the Anthurium genus, distinguished by its striking foliage and elegant form. This plant is native to tropical regions of Central and South America, where it thrives in lush, shaded environments. The leaves of Anthurium veitchii are large, leathery, and heart-shaped, with prominent veins that give them a textured appearance. They typically exhibit a deep green colour, sometimes with a subtle glossy finish. The plant produces distinctive spathes (modified leaves) and spadix (central flower spike), which add to its exotic charm. Anthurium veitchii is known for its unique appearance and is a prized choice for collectors and plant enthusiasts.

Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies.  The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.

Care Plan:

  1. Light: Anthurium veitchii thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may grow more slowly and produce fewer flowers. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can cause leaf burn.

  2. Watering: Water the plant when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Ensure that the pot has excellent drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering slightly as the plant's growth slows down.

  3. Humidity: This species prefers high humidity, ideally around 60% or higher. To maintain the appropriate humidity level, use a humidifier, place the plant on a humidity tray, or mist the leaves regularly.

  4. Temperature: Keep Anthurium vetchii in a warm environment, with temperatures between 18°C and 27°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations to prevent stress.

  5. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This mix ensures good aeration and prevents water from accumulating around the roots.

  6. Fertilising: Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Cut back on fertilising during the winter months when growth slows.

  7. Repotting: Repot Anthurium veitchii every 1-2 years or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is 2-5 cm larger in diameter than the current one to provide room for growth.
