Calathea concinna Freddy
Description
Calathea concinna ‘Freddy’ is a beautifully patterned tropical foliage plant admired for its elongated wavy leaves and elegant striped markings. Its soft green foliage features contrasting darker green feather-like patterns that create a refined and calming tropical appearance.
Known for its graceful growth habit and decorative foliage, ‘Freddy’ is an excellent choice for bright indoor spaces, shaded patios, and tropical plant collections. Like many Calatheas, its leaves gently move throughout the day in response to light, adding extra character and movement to the plant.
With its lush foliage and compact growth, Calathea ‘Freddy’ brings a soft natural aesthetic to any indoor jungle or tropical-inspired space.
Care Plan
Light
Prefers bright indirect light or filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it may scorch the delicate foliage and cause fading or browning.
Watering
Keep soil consistently lightly moist but never waterlogged. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry slightly. Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely.
Humidity
Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity helps prevent crispy leaf edges and supports lush healthy growth.
Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 18°C and 28°C. Protect from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and temperatures below 15°C.
Soil
Requires a rich, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing airflow around the roots. A premium indoor plant mix with perlite and coco coir works well.
Fertilising
Feed during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength every few weeks. Reduce feeding during cooler months when growth slows.
Growth Habit
A compact clumping tropical plant with upright arching foliage, ideal for decorative pots and indoor displays.
