Calathea lietzei ‘White Fusion’
Description:
Calathea ‘White Fusion’ is a highly sought-after cultivar admired for its striking foliage. Its leaves display a marbled blend of green, white, and soft lilac tones, with a distinctive purple underside that adds depth and contrast. The irregular white variegation gives each leaf a unique, almost hand-painted look. This tropical plant is part of the Marantaceae family, commonly called prayer plants, known for their nightly leaf movements. A compact grower, it makes an elegant statement as a feature plant indoors.
Care Plan:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch or fade the delicate variegation.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, and use filtered or rainwater if possible, as Calatheas are sensitive to salts and chemicals in tap water.
-
Humidity: Prefers high humidity (60%+). A humidifier, pebble tray, or grouping with other plants will help prevent crisping leaf edges.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions between 18–27°C. Keep away from cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining mix rich in organic matter, such as a blend of peat, perlite, and pine bark.
-
Fertiliser: Feed lightly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks. Avoid overfertilising, as it can damage the roots.
-
Maintenance: Wipe leaves regularly to remove dust and allow maximum photosynthesis. Trim any yellow or brown leaves to keep the plant looking fresh.
