Colocasia esculenta ‘Mojito’ – Bulb
Colocasia ‘Mojito’ is a striking tropical plant prized for its large, heart-shaped leaves patterned with irregular splashes, speckles and marbling in deep green, lime and near-black tones. Each leaf develops its own unique markings, making every plant slightly different.
Please note: These plants are sold as bulbs and will arrive without foliage. Colocasias do not travel well with leaves attached, as the delicate foliage can become damaged or stressed during transport. For this reason, the leaves have been removed before dispatch. This helps reduce moisture loss and travel stress, allowing the plant to focus its energy on establishing new roots and producing fresh foliage after planting.
Care Plan for Colocasia ‘Mojito’
Planting: Plant the bulb in a pot with the growing point facing upwards, positioned just below the surface of the soil. Keep it warm and lightly moist while waiting for new growth. Sprouting time will vary depending on temperature and seasonal conditions.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight. It can tolerate gentle morning sun, but protect new growth from harsh afternoon sun.
Water: Once actively growing, keep the soil consistently moist. Colocasias enjoy more moisture than many indoor plants but should not remain in stagnant, waterlogged soil. While the bulb is dormant or has not yet sprouted, water sparingly to prevent rot.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity. Protect emerging leaves from dry air and strong winds.
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions above 18°C. Growth may slow or stop during cooler weather, and the bulb may become dormant. Protect it from frost and prolonged cold.
Soil: Plant in a rich, moisture-retentive but well-draining potting mix. A quality premium potting mix amended with organic matter is ideal.
Fertiliser: Once new growth appears, feed regularly during the warmer growing months with a balanced liquid or slow-release fertiliser. Do not fertilise a dormant or unsprouted bulb.
