Philodendron ‘Xanadu’ is a compact, clumping variety of self-heading philodendron prized for its lush, deeply lobed foliage. Each leaf is glossy green, leathery in texture, and can reach up to 40 cm long under ideal conditions. Unlike vining philodendrons, ‘Xanadu’ grows in a dense, upright form, making it an excellent choice for statement pots or as part of a tropical garden display. Over time, it forms a tidy clump that adds architectural structure and a touch of the tropics indoors or outdoors in warm climates.

Care Plan

Light:

  • Prefers bright, indirect light for best growth.

  • Tolerates lower light indoors but may grow more slowly and produce smaller leaves.

  • Avoid direct harsh sun as it can scorch the foliage.

Water:

  • Keep the soil lightly moist but not waterlogged.

  • Water thoroughly when the top 3–5 cm of soil has dried out.

  • Reduce watering frequency in cooler months.

Humidity:

  • Appreciates moderate to high humidity, though it adapts well to average indoor conditions.

  • Misting or a humidity tray can be beneficial in dry environments.

Soil:

  • Use a rich, free-draining potting mix with good aeration.

  • Aroids thrive in mixes containing peat, perlite, bark, and compost.

Temperature:

  • Ideal range: 18–27 °C.

  • Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 12 °C.

Fertiliser:

  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn).

  • Reduce or withhold fertiliser during winter dormancy.

Maintenance:

  • Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and allow for optimal photosynthesis.

  • Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to encourage fresh growth.

  • Repot every 2–3 years or when clumps become root bound.
