Cyrtosperma johnstonii
yrtosperma johnstonii is a striking aroid known for its elongated, arrow-shaped leaves adorned with prominent deep red to burgundy veins against a green background. The foliage has a slightly wavy margin, adding to its dramatic appearance. This rare tropical plant is native to swampy and wetland environments in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, making it well-suited to high humidity and consistently moist conditions. Its unique growth habit and bold foliage make it a desirable specimen for collectors of rare aroids.
Cyrtosperma johnstonii Care Plan
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some dappled sun but should be protected from harsh direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorch.
Watering: Requires consistently moist soil. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely but also ensure it is well-draining to prevent root rot. Using a water-retentive but airy substrate is ideal.
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (above 70%). If indoor humidity is too low, increase it with a humidifier, misting, or placing the plant near water sources.
Temperature: Prefers warm conditions between 20°C and 30°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C, as cold stress can damage the plant.
Soil: Best grown in a rich, well-draining but moisture-retentive mix. A blend of peat, perlite, and orchid bark, or a mix designed for aroids, works well.
Fertiliser: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in cooler months.
