Description:
Monstera epipremnoides is a rare and striking aroid known for its deeply fenestrated foliage. Often mistaken for Monstera adansonii, this species produces larger, more elongated leaves with dramatic perforations as it matures. The glossy green leaves develop intricate slits and holes, giving them a lace-like appearance. Native to Central America, particularly Costa Rica, it thrives in humid, tropical environments and climbs trees using its aerial roots. With proper care, this Monstera can become an impressive statement plant, either as a climber or in a hanging display.

Care Plan for Monstera epipremnoides

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. It tolerates some dappled sun but should be shielded from harsh, direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

Watering:
Water when the top three to five centimetres of soil is dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging, as this can cause root rot.

Temperature and Humidity:
Thrives in warm temperatures between 18 to 28 degrees Celsius. Requires high humidity (above 60 percent) to encourage healthy growth and fenestration. If humidity is low, mist occasionally or use a humidifier.

Soil:
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix with orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir to support root aeration.

Fertiliser:
Feed every two to four weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.

Repotting:
Repot every one to two years or when roots outgrow the pot. Choose a pot with good drainage to prevent excess moisture retention.

Support and Pruning:
Provide a moss pole or trellis for climbing to encourage larger leaves and stronger growth. Prune as needed to remove dead or damaged leaves.
