Epipremnum giganteum ‘Variegata’
Description:
Epipremnum giganteum ‘Variegata’ is a rare and spectacular aroid prized for its oversized, glossy green leaves marbled with creamy white to pale yellow variegation. A close relative of the common Pothos, this species lives up to its name with truly gigantic foliage that can span over 60 cm in mature specimens. The variegation pattern varies from speckled to bold sectoral markings, making each leaf distinct. This fast-growing climber or ground-dweller is ideal for collectors wanting a dramatic, tropical centrepiece. When given a totem or support, it will climb and develop increasingly larger foliage.
Care Plan:
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can burn the leaves, while low light may reduce variegation.
Water:
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as the roots are prone to rot in overly wet conditions.
Humidity:
Enjoys high humidity (60%+), but is tolerant of average indoor levels. Increase humidity for optimal leaf size and growth.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range is 18–28°C. Protect from temperatures below 12°C and sudden cold drafts.
Soil:
Prefers a well-draining aroid mix—combine premium indoor potting mix with perlite and orchid bark for airflow and moisture balance.
Fertiliser:
Feed monthly during active growth (spring to early autumn) with a balanced or nitrogen-rich liquid fertiliser. Pause in winter or when growth slows.
Growth Habit:
Vigorous and fast-growing when supported. Can be grown as a trailing or climbing plant. As it matures, the leaf size increases substantially.
