Epipremnum giganteum Variegata is a striking aroid prized for its large, glossy leaves splashed with creamy-white to pale green variegation. A close relative of the popular Epipremnum aureum (Devil’s Ivy), this species is notable for its much larger foliage, with mature leaves often reaching impressive sizes when grown in the right conditions. The variegation can present as marbled, sectoral, or mottled patterns, making each leaf unique.

This plant is naturally a vigorous climber, producing aerial roots that allow it to attach to supports and develop larger leaves as it matures. When grown indoors, it makes an eye-catching statement plant and thrives when provided with space to climb and plenty of bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation.

Care Plan

Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation.

  • Can tolerate medium light but may produce more green leaves with reduced variegation.

  • Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Water

  • Water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry.

  • Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

  • Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.

Humidity

  • Thrives in moderate to high humidity (60%+).

  • Can adapt to average indoor humidity but will grow more vigorously with additional humidity from misting, pebble trays, or a humidifier.

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 18–28°C.

  • Protect from cold draughts and avoid exposure below 15°C.

Soil

  • Requires a well-draining aroid mix – for example, a blend of premium potting mix with added perlite, orchid bark, and peat/coco coir.

  • Good aeration around the roots is essential to prevent rot.

Fertiliser

  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

  • Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth slows.

Growth Habit & Support

  • A natural climber – provide a moss pole, trellis, or totem to encourage upright growth and larger leaves.

  • Will trail if not given support, making it versatile as both a floor or hanging display.
