Ficus elastica Burgandy
Ficus elastica ‘Burgundy’ — Burgundy Rubber Plant
A bold, architectural foliage plant with large, glossy leaves in deep burgundy to near-black tones. Its upright growth habit and dramatic colouring make it a striking feature plant for homes, offices, and tropical landscapes.
Light
Bright indirect light. Tolerates lower light conditions, but best foliage colour develops in brighter positions. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sun.
Water
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Humidity
Prefers moderate humidity but adapts well to average indoor conditions.
Temperature
Thrives in temperatures between 18–30°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C.
Soil
Use a well-draining premium potting mix with added perlite or bark for improved aeration.
Fertiliser
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during spring and summer to encourage healthy growth.
Additional Information
A hardy, low-maintenance plant suitable for both indoor and sheltered outdoor settings in frost-free climates. Wipe leaves occasionally to maintain their glossy appearance and support healthy growth. Produces a milky sap that may irritate skin and is toxic if ingested, so keep away from pets and children. With time, it can develop into an impressive small tree-like specimen. Keep this plant potted as it will grow into a large tree with destructive roots.
