Homalomena ‘Golden Hibiscus’ – Description

Homalomena rubescens ‘Golden Hibiscus’ is an eye-catching, self-heading aroid grown for its vibrant foliage and compact growth habit. The broad, glossy leaves display warm golden-yellow to chartreuse tones, often overlaid with soft green veining that adds depth and contrast. As the plant matures, colour intensity can vary depending on light levels, with brighter light encouraging stronger golden hues.

Neat, clumping, and non-climbing, this variety is well suited to indoor environments, shaded outdoor spaces in warm climates, and collectors seeking a bold foliage plant that remains manageable in size.

Care Plan – Homalomena rubescens ‘Golden Hibiscus’

Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal to maintain strong colour and healthy growth. Tolerates medium light, though foliage may appear greener in lower light. Avoid direct sun.

Water
Keep the soil consistently lightly moist, allowing the top few centimetres to dry between waterings. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root or stem rot.

Humidity
Prefers moderate to high humidity but adapts well to average indoor conditions.

Temperature
Thrives between 18–28 °C. Protect from temperatures below 15 °C and cold drafts.

Soil / Substrate
A free-draining aroid mix with good moisture retention is recommended. A blend of premium potting mix, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well.

Fertiliser
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 2–4 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding during cooler months.

Growth Habit
Self-heading and clumping. Moderate growth rate.

Maintenance
Low maintenance. Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and maintain leaf sheen. Remove older leaves as they age.
