Homalomena rubescens ‘Flaming Red’

Description:
Homalomena rubescens ‘Flaming Red’ is a striking aroid known for its lush, broad foliage and deep red petioles. The leaves are large, glossy, and heart-shaped, with a rich green hue that contrasts beautifully against the vibrant red stems. This species thrives in tropical environments, making it a fantastic choice for collectors who appreciate bold foliage and easy-care plants. Its compact growth habit and tolerance to lower light conditions also make it ideal for indoor cultivation.

Care Plan:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.

Humidity: Loves high humidity (above 60%) but can adapt to average indoor humidity. Consider misting or using a humidifier for optimal growth.

Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 18–30°C. Avoid exposure to cold drafts or temperatures below 15°C.

Soil: A well-draining, airy mix is best—use a combination of peat, perlite, and orchid bark for good aeration and moisture retention.

Fertilising: Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in cooler months.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
