The Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation' is a stunning tropical plant known for its large, heart-shaped leaves adorned with striking variegation. The cream or occasionally pale yellow splashes and speckles on the dark green foliage give it the appearance of a starry night sky, hence the name 'Thai Constellation.' This variety is a cultivar of the popular Monstera deliciosa, prized for its dramatic fenestrations (natural splits and holes in the leaves) that develop as the plant matures.

This Monstera is relatively easy to care for and thrives in bright, indirect light. It prefers well-draining soil and benefits from regular watering, though it’s important to avoid waterlogging the roots. Given the right conditions, the 'Thai Constellation' can grow into a large and impressive specimen, making it a favourite among houseplant enthusiasts. Its variegation is stable, meaning it won’t revert to all green, adding to its value and uniqueness.

Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies.  The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.

Light Requirements

  • Ideal Light: Bright, indirect sunlight.
  • Avoid: Direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves, and low light conditions which can slow growth and reduce variegation.

Watering

  • Frequency: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry.
  • Method: Water thoroughly until water drains out from the bottom of the pot. Ensure the plant is not sitting in water.
  • Winter Adjustments: Reduce watering frequency during the winter months.

Humidity

  • Preferred Level: High humidity (60-80%).
  • Tips: Use a humidifier, place the plant on a humidity tray, or mist the leaves regularly to maintain humidity levels.

Temperature

  • Ideal Range: 18-27°
  • Avoid: Temperatures below 15°C and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Soil

  • Type: Well-draining, Chunky potting mix.
  • Mix Suggestions: A mixture of peat moss, perlite, Charcoal and orchid bark works well.

Fertilization

  • Frequency: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Type: Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength.
  • Winter Adjustments: Reduce or stop fertilization during the dormant period.

Pruning and Training

  • Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves as needed. Prune to control size and shape.
  • Training: Support the plant with a moss pole or trellis to encourage upright growth.

Repotting

  • Frequency: Every 2-3 years, or when the plant outgrows its pot.
  • Signs for Repotting: Roots growing out of the drainage holes or the plant becoming top-heavy.
  • Best Time: Spring or early summer.
