Monstera obliqua ‘Peru’
Monstera obliqua ‘Peru’ is an extremely rare tropical aroid prized for its delicate, paper-thin leaves and dramatic natural fenestrations. Unlike the more common Monstera adansonii, the leaves of Monstera obliqua contain more holes than leaf tissue, creating a highly intricate and airy appearance. Native to the humid rainforests of Peru, this climbing species thrives in warm, moist conditions with bright filtered light.
Light
Bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate foliage. Lower light may slow growth and reduce fenestration development.
Water
Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. This species is sensitive to overwatering and root rot.
Humidity
Requires very high humidity, ideally above 70%. A humidifier or greenhouse cabinet is highly beneficial for healthy growth.
Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 20–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and premium potting mix to maintain airflow around the roots.
Fertiliser
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertiliser to encourage steady growth.
