Philodendron bipinnatifidum Variegata
Philodendron bipinnatifidum Variegata is a stunning variegated form of the classic tree philodendron, known for its large, deeply lobed leaves and striking creamy-yellow or white marbled variegation. This tropical plant develops a thick, woody trunk over time and can grow into an impressive statement piece indoors or outdoors in warm climates. Unlike vining philodendrons, it grows in a self-heading, upright form, making it an excellent focal point in a garden or large indoor space. Its variegation pattern is highly variable, with each leaf displaying unique markings.
Care Plan
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its variegation. It can tolerate some direct morning sun but should be protected from harsh afternoon sunlight, which may scorch the leaves. Low light can cause reduced variegation.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2–5 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering may cause leaf browning.
Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (above 60%), but it can adapt to lower levels. If the air is dry, consider misting or using a humidifier.
Temperature: Best suited to temperatures between 18–30°C. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 12°C, as cold can cause leaf damage.
Soil: Use a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix with peat, perlite, and orchid bark to ensure proper aeration and moisture retention.
Fertilising: Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
