Its upright growth habit, paired with its colourful variegation, makes it a prized addition to any plant collection.
Care Plan
Light:
- Provide bright, indirect light to enhance variegation.
- Avoid direct sunlight, as it may scorch the delicate variegated portions of the leaves.
Temperature & Humidity:
- Ideal temperature: 18–30°C.
- Thrives in high humidity (60–80%). Use a humidifier or pebble tray if needed.
Watering:
- Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry.
- Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Soil:
- Use a well-draining, aroid mix containing components like peat, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir.
Fertiliser:
- Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser (diluted to half strength) every 2–4 weeks during the growing season.
Repotting:
- Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a slightly larger pot and refresh the soil.
Propagation:
- Propagate via stem cuttings with at least one node. Root in water, sphagnum moss, or directly in soil.
Pests:
- Common pests include spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs. Regularly inspect and treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap as needed.
Additional Tips:
- Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even growth.
- Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes, as they can stress the plant.
This rare beauty deserves some extra TLC, but its striking foliage makes it well worth the effort!
