Philodendron erubescens White Wizard - Perfectly Imperfect Plants
Philodendron erubescens ‘White Wizard’ – Perfectly Imperfect Plants – Description
Philodendron erubescens ‘White Wizard’ is a stunning tropical climbing plant, prized for its striking green and white variegated foliage. Each glossy, heart-shaped leaf displays a unique combination of deep green and creamy-white markings, ranging from delicate splashes to dramatic blocks of white. With its elegant appearance and climbing growth habit, this Philodendron is a beautiful addition to any indoor plant collection. As the plant matures, its leaves become larger and more impressive, particularly when provided with a totem or climbing support.
As part of our Perfectly Imperfect Plants collection, these beauties may have cosmetic imperfections, uneven growth or reduced variegation. While they may not meet our usual retail standards, they still have plenty of potential and offer a wonderful opportunity to grow something special at a more affordable price. These plants are removed from their pots, with the root ball and potting mix carefully wrapped in a bag.
Care Plan for Philodendron erubescens ‘White Wizard’
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain its beautiful white variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate white sections of the leaves. Insufficient light may slow growth and result in reduced variegation.
Water: Allow the top 2–4 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Keep the growing medium lightly moist but never waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while prolonged dryness may cause leaf curling and browning. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity (60–80%). Higher humidity encourages healthy leaf development and helps prevent browning along the delicate white sections. A humidifier or naturally humid indoor environment is beneficial.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 18–28°C, with optimal growth occurring around 22–27°C. Protect from cold draughts, sudden temperature fluctuations and prolonged exposure to temperatures below 15°C.
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix containing quality potting mix, perlite, orchid bark and coco coir. Good drainage and airflow around the roots are essential to encourage healthy root development and prevent waterlogging.
Feeding: Feed every 3–4 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Avoid excessive fertilisation, which may cause leaf burn or salt accumulation. Reduce or pause feeding during winter when growth slows.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when roots become crowded. Choose a pot with adequate drainage and increase the pot size only slightly. Providing a moss pole, totem or climbing support will encourage larger, more mature foliage as the plant develops.
