Philodendron pinnatifidum 'Jungle Fever'
Description
Philodendron pinnatifidum 'Jungle Fever' is a striking and rare variegated form of the deeply lobed species Philodendron pinnatifidum. This cultivar is celebrated for its vivid yellow to golden variegation that splashes dramatically across its narrow, deeply pinnatifid (feather-like) foliage. The contrast between the rich green and intense "yellow tones gives the plant an electrifying visual appeal.
The foliage becomes increasingly dissected as the plant matures, offering a sculptural look with bold texture and colour. This cultivar climbs with vigour and thrives when supported, making it a standout focal point in any rare aroid collection.
Care Plan
Light
Provide bright, indirect light. Sufficient light is essential to maintain vibrant variegation and healthy growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause leaf burn, especially on the yellow areas.
Watering
Water when the top 3–5 cm of the soil has dried out. Use the soak-and-dry method to prevent overwatering. Allow excess water to drain freely.
Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity (ideally above 60%). Use a humidifier or place near other plants to maintain a humid microclimate.
Temperature
Prefers warm, stable conditions between 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts, sudden drops in temperature, and frost.
Soil
Use a well-aerated, fast-draining aroid mix. A blend of coco coir, orchid bark, perlite, and activated charcoal will provide excellent drainage and root health.
Fertilising
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Support
As a climbing species, it benefits from a moss pole or totem to encourage upright growth and larger leaves.
