Philodendron ‘Prince of Orange’

Description

Philodendron ‘Prince of Orange’ is a vibrant, self-heading hybrid grown for its continuously changing foliage colour rather than variegation. New leaves emerge in brilliant shades of copper, tangerine, and burnt orange, creating a warm, glowing centre to the plant. As the leaves mature, they gradually transition through bronze tones before settling into deep green, resulting in a multi-tonal display across the plant at any given time.

This cultivar maintains a compact, rosette-like growth habit, with leaves radiating outward from a central stem rather than climbing. The foliage is broad, slightly elongated, and smooth-textured, with a subtle sheen that enhances the richness of its colour transitions.

‘Prince of Orange’ is an excellent choice for adding colour contrast to indoor plant collections, especially when paired with darker green or variegated species.

Care Plan

Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Adequate light is important to maintain the intensity of the orange new growth. Too little light may result in duller, more green-toned foliage. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering
Allow the top 2–4 cm of soil to dry between waterings. Keep soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Humidity
Prefers moderate humidity but is generally tolerant of typical indoor conditions. Higher humidity will support more vigorous growth and larger leaves.

Temperature
Ideal temperatures range from 18–28°C. Protect from cold drafts and avoid temperatures below 12°C.

Soil
Use a well-draining aroid mix consisting of potting mix, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or peat. This ensures good aeration while retaining sufficient moisture.

Fertilising
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding during cooler months when growth slows.
