Piper Macropiper Variegata is a striking tropical plant known for its large, heart-shaped leaves that showcase beautiful variegation. The leaves are deep green, adorned with irregular creamy-white patterns that add an exotic flair. This plant has a bushy growth habit, making it an attractive choice for indoor collections or shaded outdoor gardens in tropical or subtropical climates. The texture of the leaves is slightly leathery, and the plant emits a subtle, peppery fragrance when the leaves are rubbed or crushed. It's a member of the Piperaceae family, which includes the common black pepper plant.

Please note: These plants have been grown in seedling plug trays and therefore the root systems will not be as fully established as a larger pot size and will require extra attention. Plants are on average 5cm in length and photos on the website are indicative only. Please take this into consideration with each purchase of the Bare Bottom Babies.  The dispatch team always pick the best plants that are available.

Care Plan for Piper Macropiper Variegata:

Light:
Piper Macropiper Variegata thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some shade but should be protected from direct sunlight, which can scorch the variegated leaves. A spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In warmer months, this may require watering once or twice a week. Reduce watering in winter when the plant's growth slows.

Humidity:
This plant prefers high humidity levels, ideally above 60%. Consider using a humidity tray or a humidifier if the indoor air is dry, especially during winter months.

Temperature:
Piper Macropiper Variegata prefers warm temperatures between 18-27°C.

Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C

Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix designed for tropical plants, containing peat, perlite, and pine bark, is ideal.

Fertilisation:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilising in winter.
