Stachyphrynium Repens Variegated - Bare bottom Baby
Stachyphrynium repens Variegated – Description
Stachyphrynium repens Variegated is a distinctive tropical foliage plant with elongated leaves marked by attractive contrasting stripes. Its low, spreading growth habit makes it well suited to a warm indoor space or a sheltered, shaded garden position. Native to tropical parts of Asia, it naturally grows in forest understories and can spread by creeping rhizomes.
Care Plan
Light
- Prefers low to medium, indirect light, similar to the dappled conditions of a forest understory.
- Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
- Gentle, filtered light helps maintain healthy growth and attractive leaf patterning.
Watering
- Keep the potting mix evenly moist, but not waterlogged.
- Water when the surface begins to feel slightly dry.
- Reduce watering in cooler months, while ensuring the mix does not dry out completely.
Humidity
- Prefers moderate to high humidity.
- Keep it away from very dry air, heaters and air-conditioning vents.
Temperature
- Grows best in warm conditions, ideally around 18–28°C.
- Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
Soil
- Use a moisture-retentive but free-draining mix.
- A quality indoor potting mix with added fine bark or perlite can help maintain moisture while allowing excess water to drain.
Fertiliser
- Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength during the warmer growing months.
- Reduce or pause feeding during cooler periods.
